Even though the emerging attack vectors on the ATMs are a test for the data and logical security mechanisms on the product, the physical attacks on the ATMs are still prevalent in alarming numbers. The physical attacks on the ATMs are not restricted only to the security container of the ATMs, but some attacks are carried out to manipulate the hardware modules of the ATMs to execute different kinds of attacks.
According to a 2020 report from European Association for Secure Transactions (EAST), there is a year-on-year increase in financial losses due to the physical attacks on the ATMs. The data also highlights that the physical attacks on the ATMs are consistent over the years and will continue to be a significant attack vector and the banks must take physical security of the ATMs as a serious concern and must act accordingly to protect their ATM fleet.

Sensors
Ecoteller® ATMs are mounted with the sensors in the security containers that are capable of
detecting the temperature change, vibration, and any tilt observed in the ATM. Once any one of the three parameters is detected the mechanism shall trigger an alarm.
Security Container
Ecoteller® ATMs are equipped with industry standard security containers that offer protection
against physical attacks on the ATM security container. Ecoteller® front loading lobby ATMs are with UL 291 level 1 certified security containers. Ecoteller® rear-loading Through-the-Wall (TTW) ATMs are available with CEN 1 certified security containers. The above-mentioned features offer a robust security mechanism against the physical attacks on the ATMs.
Anti-Skimming Device (ASD)
Ecoteller® ATMs are equipped with an industry-standard anti-skimming device that offers
protection against card skimming and card trapping. The ASD mounted to the card reader
mechanism will detect any type of skimming device and will trigger an alarm or shut down the ATM machine. The ASD device is always active and offers 24x7 protection against any
manipulation of the card reader.
